GCEF Grants Support Local Safety and Awareness Issues.

Since awarding its first grants in 2005, the fund has reinvested a total of $38,980 into local nonprofit initiatives promoting tolerance and well-being in the Greater Akron area.
The following grants were awarded:
The Akron AIDS Collaborative, for the Ujima Safe House Project, $7,500
Akron Area Pride Collective, to publish and increase distribution of its monthly newsletter, $2,500
Fusion Magazine, Kent State University, to produce and expand circulation of the magazine, which strives to unify people of different backgrounds and orientations, $2,000
Rape Crisis Center, for the Reach OUT Initiative pilot program to support GLBT communities, $8,500
University of Akron Foundation, to fund the seminar “Understanding and Strengthining GLBT Couples Relationships: What are the Struggles and What Can Help,” $2,500
The University of Akron, for the conference "Psychological Perspectives on GLBT Persons," $1,000
